As spring break approaches, you can bet this island will get busy. Remember the most important thing when on land-right turns only!!!! We will have more boats from out of town, more people attempting to fish in the waters that surround our beautiful Port A. I would really like to encourage everyone who wants to bring their own boat to come here to fish to pay a guide to show them safely how to navigate the waters before throwing caution to the wind and breaking out on their own. I don't say this to make money-I say this to keep you and your family safer. Too many times I have had to stop fishing with clients to rescue someone who had no idea there was a sandbar or oyster reef in their path and they got stuck. My clients have always understood that It Is the right thing to do, but It Is frustrating for everyone when a trip Is Interrupted due to negligence. It happens, but in reality, coming here for vacation should be fun. Our waterways share dangers with us daily and you should be educated in this area so you can be safer on your journey. Now after fishing for a while with a guide and learning the area as well as all the safety requirements of operating a boat here, sure-bring your own boat and go have fun, but remember-the water and sea floor change daily-the bays are not the lake.
